The Vizsla Club of Central New England was founded by respected fanciers of the breed, Chauncy and Carol Smith, Bela and Alice Hadik, along with Pat Carter, who was the force behind the getting the club going in 1964. Originally, the club was called the Vizsla Club of New Hampshire and focused on gathering and building enthusiasm for Vizsla breeders and owners to participate in shows and field trials. In the early New Hampshire years, charter members Chancey and Carol Smith, Herb and Sally Clark, Carlo and Betty Zezza, Carl Richey, Bob and Nancy Perry, and several others were active in getting the club started.

In 1965, the VCCNE was officially sanctioned by the American Kennel Club under its new name to better reflect its membership spanning multiple neighboring states, Vizsla Club of Central New England. That same year, the club held the first AKC sanctioned Field Trial in April at The Clockery in Chester, New Hampshire. Ever since, the VCCNE has functioned under the rules and regulations set forth by the AKC to conduct field trials, conformation shows, B Matches, and obedience trials. Members and breeders were and are urged to accept the standards developed by the Vizsla Club of America and the AKC, and to support research and educational work to reduce or eliminate undesirable congenital traits in the breed.

The club logo graphically reflects the residency of the membership and continual commitment to excellence in the breed. The image of the Vizsla is a tribute to DC Futaki “Darocz”, the breed’s first dual champion (DC) in America who earned championship status in both show and field in 1965. Darocz was bred and owned by Bela Hadik, the official club’s first President, who was also the VCA’s vice president in 1967. Darocz was trained and handled to his field championship by fellow club member Chauncey Smith, and shown in conformation by John Carter. Darocz went on to become one of the first two vizslas in the VCA’s Hall of Fame Vizslas in 1978.

In keeping with the founding principles and objectives, our Club regularly sponsors hunt tests, conformation shows, demonstrations, training days, and encourages new activities that develop the natural abilities of the Vizsla breed.
